I aways tell my Spanish students about facturas when we start with the food chapter but find it hard to find the exact term that would describe them accurately so they often come up with the term pastry. But I find this term sort of incomplete or limiting when they say: oh yeah! It is like the Danish Pastry, but .... What about the variety brought by Sacramentos, Bolas de Fraile, Vigilantes, Hojaldradas, Crema de huevo ?? So as I feel I have to be fair with Argentinian facturas I Google them to show how facturas look like and alert my students that they are meant for breakfast or tea time never for dinner! Since Facturas are meant to be eaten either for breakfast or tea time; instead masas are meant to be eaten for dinner with a cup of coffee! ☕ So remember: if invited to a house for breakfast or tea time expect or take FATURAS but if invited for dinner expect or take MASAS as a dessert! Mind the difference! 😉
